Introduction by - Adam Faith I was very flattered when I was asked to write an introduction to this new Giles book. But then I began to have doubts. How can anyone introduce Giles? He needs no introduction. He is an institution. A part of the British way of life.
My own generation grew up with Giles. He was always there in our daily 'Express', and a well worn copy of his book was to be found in the doctor's or dentist's waiting-room.
And because he is an institution, I wonder how many of us have stopped to think that this world he satirises for us needs hectic hours of carefully thought-out technical ingenuity and thorough planning.
I would hate to count up how many hours of work and thought have gone into the compilation of this book alone. Although the very best satisfaction he could have must be the knowledge that literally millions of people will read it and love it.
When I make a record or do a TV show I hope that I am appealing to audiences other than teenagers. But with Giles there can be no question.
He is a hit with everyone. Every kind of home, every kind of person and every age group love to read their 'Giles'.
My home anyway, at Christmas is incomplete without this book. I am sure it is the same for many of you.
For you regular fans here is a few hours of delight. And for you uninitiated (and there must be a few) - Here is Giles.
